Frankincense Mythology
Frankincense is a heady, spicy aroma from the resin of the Boswellia tree. It is a primal incense and spice that has been traded in North Africa and Arabia for more than 5,000 years. The frankincense trade was even depicted on a mural in a temple dedicated to Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut, who died in 1458 B.C. The resin is well known in the Hebrew Bible as part of the consecrated incense burned at the altars of the First and Second Jerusalem Temples. In the Far East, frankincense has long been used in traditional healing and is thought to bring good health in Indian culture.
